Cancer Smart Youth Voices

My name is Idah Phiri. I joined the Zambian Cancer Society (ZCS) in 2010. Growing up, I loved doing charity work and God blessed me with an exciting talent which is public speaking. So, I decided to use my talent to help other people learn more about cancer and raise funds in benefit of cancer patients. Since then, I have found my flow and combine my talent, passion and skills promoting a healthy lifestyle among the youth.

“I became a Cancer Advocate at the age of 14.”

This journey with the Zambian Cancer Society is helping me thrive in different fields. Here are three examples:

1. Organisational Skills

Most recently, I was appointed Production Assistant for an upcoming ZCS radio drama series on breast cancer called TISAMALA (meaning We Care).

2. Public Speaking

I have attended and spoken at several local and national events such World No Tobacco Day which falls on 31 May every year.

3. Writing Skills

As Communications Officer for ZCS and Head of the Cancer Smart Youth programme, my writing keeps getting better everyday!

My vision is to see a Zambia with less cancer and More Birthdays, championed by the youth living a healthy lifestyle! I base this vision on one of my favourite scriptures: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Philippians 4:13.
